NEWS IN THE TRAFFIC LAW

1.- PHONE IN HAND
Article 76 prohibiting the use of a mobile phone while driving is amended and extended. So, from now on, you will not be able to have your phone in your hand even if it is not in use. The penalty for committing this new offense will be 6 points on the driver's license.

2.- BELT
Another new rule is that if the driver does not wear a seat belt while driving, he may lose up to four points on his driving license. This raises the current regulations, which place the same offense at three points on the driver's license and a fine of up to 200 euros.

3.- RADAR DETECTORS
The use of a radar detector was previously sanctioned, while when the new rule comes into operation, the mere act of taking it to the car will already be punishable. The penalty will be three points on the driver's license.

4.- DAMAGE AND DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT
This is how the DGT defines a new type of rule that opens the door to sanction new standard actions so far, such as stopping or parking a vehicle and not turning off the engine.
Some municipalities already include in their environmental and mobility ordinances the possibility of sanctioning drivers who do not turn off the engine after parking or in prolonged detentions. They will now have the necessary legal framework to process such sanctions.

5.- CIGARETTES
It will penalize drivers who throw objects on the road - or in the vicinity - that could cause fires or accidents. Thus, throwing a cigarette out the window while driving can lead to a loss of 6 points on the card.

6.- ADVANCES OF CYCLISTS
Overtaking cyclists is always one of the most confusing topics on the roads. Until now, not respecting the distance of 1.5 meters was sanctioned with four points of the driving license, but now, with the new reform of the traffic law, this penalty will be six points.

7.- HELMET ON THE ELECTRIC SKATEBOARDS
Anyone using an electric scooter must wear a helmet. On the scooter, it is also forbidden to drive on the sidewalks and for minors to use it if they have ingested the least amount of alcohol.

8.- MARKET OF 20KM / h FOR ADVANCES
The new rule provides for the elimination of the margin of 20 km / h with respect to the maximum speed of the track, if it were to make an overtaking. The amendment, the most controversial of all reflected in the new law, is being taken with the aim of adapting to the regulations of most European countries.

9.-The new traffic law stipulates that, regardless of the infractions committed, the term to RECOVER the initial balance of POINTS is TWO YEARS if no more infractions are committed that involve the loss of points.
In addition, it is NO longer necessary to carry the CARNET PHYSICALLY while driving, as the miDGT application allows you to prove that you have the authorization.
