COVID-19. COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT FOR THE ELDERLY: RADARS- BARCELONA.

04/05/2020

Radars is a community project promoted by Social Services of Barcelona City Council to alleviate the effects of unwanted loneliness and prevent situations of risk for the elderly.

The base of this network is formed by the radars, neighbors, shops and pharmacies in the neighborhood that, with a sensitive and respectful look, are attentive to the daily dynamics of the elderly around them and if they detect any significant change they put in contact with Radars.

Once informed, Social Services assesses whether or not to intervene. To alleviate the feeling of loneliness of these people, the volunteers of the Radar Telephone Tracking Platform call them regularly and establish a relationship of trust, which will be a first step to promote their connection to the territory. .

This task is complemented by coordination between different resources and organizations (homes, civic centers, volunteer organizations, etc.) and by the creation of new community initiatives that contribute to the inclusion of older people in their immediate environment.
