CAN WE CHANGE THE ORDER OF THE NAME OF OUR SON'S SURNAME?

19/06/2019

The Spanish system of imposing surnames supposes that a person has to carry as first surname the first of the father and as the second the first of the mother.

But this general rule changes when the father and mother, by mutual consent, before the registration of the birth of their child, decide to reverse the order of the child's last name, so that they register with the first of the mother, as first , and with the first of the father, as second. The order agreed upon for the eldest of the children will govern in the inscriptions of the following children of the same parents. On the other hand, the child, upon reaching the age of majority, may also request that the order of their surnames be altered.
